It is equally relevant if not extremely important for the gentlemen to go through the post to appreciate the finer nuances of the term Sexy from a woman’s perspective.

Like any normal human being, every individual would like to be noticed, appreciated and respected no matter what their age, gender or economic background. A woman is blessed by nature to be a shade different from men in both physical form as also in their abilities, their mental makeup and their style. A woman often multitasks with seamless competence, has a greater resolve, is more committed to family responsibilities and becomes the pivot of a happy family. It is equally true that a women takes the effort to be well dressed, spends time and energy to be well groomed without compromising on their core responsibilities.

The woman one admires is not just the appealing physical form but the entire package that can include a number of roles being played by the same individual. She can be a dutiful daughter, an affectionate sister, a faithful wife, a protective parent and a diligent individual in any role. Remarkably, a woman will revel in any of these roles for she understands the criticality of her contribution in each of these roles. She will applaud, scold, worry, appreciate and chasten with equal aplomb for she is driven by love, motivated by bonding and duty bound by nature.

A woman’s personality lies in her dexterity, her vivaciousness, her independence and her commitment. She can be fiercely protective of those she loves, unabashedly partial to those she is fond of, acutely distressed when a loved one is in pain and exceedingly exuberant when in the company of boisterous, like minded people. In each of these varied roles a woman will be able to unobtrusively hold her own and perhaps that is the reason men tend to discount the women’s role and instead direct attention to perceived short comings of the lady. Numerous times the male chauvinist fails to give credit to the woman who is independent, self confident and individualistic.

While a women’s day, like a birthday is designated for euphoric celebrations, make each day of yours a special day; give expression to your thoughts, feelings and actions with confidence and passion. Gentlemen, appreciate the women in your life; notice how they make it more colorful, comfortable and cheerful.

How do you see yourself ?

Take a pen and paper and write down five positive adjectives that best describe you. Did you have difficulty in writing it? Now can you list out at least 2 negative adjectives that reflect an aberration in your personality? If you can immediately list our more than 2 negative traits it could possibly indicate a that you have an anxiety about yourself. The good news though is that almost everyone would have experienced this in varying degrees. Successful people have developed the art of focusing on the positives and thereby taking proactive steps to attaining those. The challenge for us then is to reorient our way of thinking and then achieve the success we seek.

It may not be apparent, but for sure every individual has it in him or her, the ability to exceed their own expectations. Let us begin by checking out a couple of well know achievers whose initial failures in academics should have been reason enough to make them give up their dreams.  Winston Churchill wasn’t exactly known for his academic prowess, yet his is amongst the first name that comes up when talking about the world war years. David Attenborough, the celebrated naturalist once addressed a graduating class with a specific speech directed at the failures of the class for he said he could identify with them as he was amongst the academic failures in his school days. On the other end of the spectrum, toppers in academics are by and large expected to be a success in their chosen field of endeavor. So it is not too surprising that Dr.Abdul Kalam became a leading scientist. Yet it was not his professional achievements that were as instrumental in his elevation as President of India as much as it was his own personal integrity and standards coupled with his visionary ways. In recent years, he remains one of India’s best loved public figures.

Many of us would shrug our shoulders at the thought of emulating these respected personalities. What is important though to note, is that each of them was just as human as each of us and for sure they did not ever visualize the sort of success they achieved. What we need to emulate, is the kind of self belief they demonstrated in their daily life, the focus and dedication with which they set about their tasks and the subsequent accolades and achievements were a logical by product of a wholesome personality. To make the best of our strength, abilities, talents and intelligence would be the most succinct way of giving expression to the enormous potential within us.

Pause for a moment and ask yourself if you are doing what you want to do or are pursuing goals largely set by others be it parents, friends, the society around us etc. Social and economic pressures would have a bearing on the choices you make but the biggest mistake one makes is to give up on a passion or goal merely because you let yourself believe that you lacked the ability. It is equally possible that you have not given up on your dreams but merely kept it on the back burner for the opportune moment. What is important to bear in mind here is that you would have to create that opportune moment and not merely have a wistful longing that may never materialize. Finally failure is a very realistic and possible outcome when one embarks on a mission. Use the lessons from the failures to rethink your strategies, rework the plans and remodel the execution without ever changing the goal.

Go look in the mirror now and appreciate the person looking back!

Confronting difficulties

Difficulties are found in every walk of life be it in personal life, in the work environment, in the family, in business, in sports, in social communications etc. Obviously in an ideal world, we would hate to be faced with difficulties because it impedes our progress, causes disruption and challenges us to overcome it with a real risk of failure looming large. Yet with resourcefulness, ingenuity, grit and persistence more often than not we have overcome many a difficulty and perhaps occasionally also experienced a few bruises in the process. We would also have painful recollections of failures, discouragement, frustration, shame and pain when the difficulties could not be overcome. Yet if you are still reading this, it clearly means that no obstacle or difficulty could defeat you permanently and that is a very encouraging thought.

Despite this realization, we tend to get dispirited, frustrated and are often tempted to throw in the towel when some difficulties seem unreasonable, grossly unjust and we lack the temperament to fight our way through. Here are three facts about difficulties that we must bear in mind at all times.

  • We cannot avoid difficulties
  • We can plan to mitigate the possible difficulties that we can visualize
  • Every difficulty that comes our way can be dealt with; however success is not guaranteed but if we do nothing failure is certain.

With the above reality kept in mind we can tackle every difficulty that comes our way with equanimity and hope. Since we are sure that we cannot avoid difficulties, the first thing we need to do is accept the difficulties when it comes with faith in ourselves and hope in finding a solution. The numerous successes that we have had in tackling past difficulties will give us both the faith and hope needed to sustain when things look bleak and one is desperately searching for the silver lining in the dark clouds.

We walk into a large number of difficulties simply because we do not anticipate them. The major reason for this is a lackadaisical attitude, inept planning and false bravado. Casualness in handling a task means we are leaving too many loose ends that could bring about a variety of difficulties. Inept planning can be overcome by brain storming, ideating, imagination and a structured approach to any task on hand. This involves not merely thinking about an issue but enumerating the solution in writing and then assigning responsibilities with clear directions, deadlines and goals. Such planning must also make allowances for changes and alternatives must be kept ready for implementation. The reality is that even the best of plans can be devastated by the unexpected, unforeseen and unimaginable difficulties. A sense of false bravado often results in one plunging headlong into finding solutions when the reality is that one needs expert advice, the help of experienced personnel and perhaps the courage of conviction to change the course of action when the progress is certainly doomed in the original direction planned.

Many a failure experienced when confronted with difficulties, is merely because a lack of self belief or the exact opposite a stubborn mule like tendency to chase the impossible. Lack of self belief comes from lack of adequate knowledge, poor self esteem, an exaggerated fear of failure and stunted thinking that limits self belief. The stubbornness that each of us has in varying degrees is primarily the result of EGO and partly the outcome of ignorance, foolhardiness and the mistaken notion that giving up is equivalent to failure. The challenge then is to master the difficulty of accepting the reality that whispers aloud to us and says go on you can do it or when it says stop killing yourself pursuing the impossible. When the former whispers loudly then take a good look at the quote below and when the latter whispers louder than ponder on the quote at the very top.

Discovering the real YOU.

Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you. Thomas Jefferson

Many of us spend a lot of time pondering over the future and going around in circles confused and fearful about our fate. We shy away from finding out answers to some fundamental questions like

  • Who am I and how do I hope to shape my future?
  • What do I want to do with my life?
  • What are those values and qualities I cherish?
  • What are the fears that torment me?
  • Who are the people I can depend upon?
  • What are my yardsticks for success?
  • How do I go about achieving success?

Obviously there are no easy answers that will emerge in a jiffy but if we dismiss these questions as impossible to answer, the questions would keep lurking n our mind and torment us thereby impeding our productivity, happiness and peace of mind.

The answers to all the questions seem hidden, obscure and / or elusive but in reality they are merely packaged within the individual personality that you are. If you want to discover it, you would need to see yourself as a package doing the rounds in a game of ‘passing the parcel’ where a dimension of you is subtly revealed when you are vulnerable, exploited, hurt, abused or manhandled like the parcel, by those you interact and deal with. When every layer of the parcel is peeled out and you delve deeper and deeper, suddenly the parcel opens up to throw up a surprise gift ‘YOU”

The practical way out to discover yourself now is to unravel the real you and that can be done when you Act with Purpose, Ponder with Insight and Accept the reality with Grace.

Act with purpose : While our formative years were by and large guided and molded by parents, elders and teachers, our dependence on them will reduce as the years go by and we grow up to be mature individuals. Hopefully we would have accepted sane advice and guidance and focused on our values, education, manners, career choice etc. when we begin to furrow our own path our upbringing should discipline us make choices with positive purpose. The learning both formal and informal, our intelligence, our experience, the feedback we receive, the risks we take, the options we avoid are all partly subconscious but largely a purposeful goal driven activity. In effect we never idle away our time or waste our resources but act with purpose to achieve our goals.

Ponder with Insight: Of and on we do tend to look back and wonder about the twists and turns in our life and occasionally we would lament and rue some mistakes and lost opportunities and also be pleased about those right moves we made. Often we will keep analyzing the present, keep attempting to improve up on the existing and make efforts to learn, improve, adjust and adapt to the changes that we experience, perceive or imagine.  We would simultaneous also look ahead and with the wisdom of past experience, the knowledge of the current trends and the applying our commonsense and foresight, ponder with insight and plan for the present and future. Without realizing we would have discovered some key competencies, some harsh realities and the real facts about ourselves.

Accept the reality with Grace: Where we fail is in accepting the reality of our personality. We would need to enthusiastically accept our strengths, our abilities, our talents and our potential and leverage them to raise the bar of personal excellence. Tougher still is the challenge of accepting the reality of our limitations, our weakness, our insipid temperament and our irrational fears which curb our risk taking,  restrict our horizons and expose our inadequacies.  Once we learn to accept the reality of our personality with grace we would have discovered the secret of how to find happiness within ourselves.

Download the attached file Human Emotions  and from the list of emotions list out 5 Positive Emotions and 5 Negative Emotions that are typical of you. Now for emotion that you have listed give a suitable example from your life to make sure the emotion has been experienced by you. Next take a print of the file and show it to the following people and ask them to outline those emotions which in their view are applicable to you. You may make some revealing realities about yourself from the replies of others.

Destiny is NOT a matter of chance…

Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice. William Jennings Bryant

If you are one of those who tend to lapse into bemoaning the ill luck that seems to constantly shadow you, now is the time to pause and have a relook at events that apparently seem to have spiraled out of control and derailed all your grandiose plans.  Here are a few  questions for you to objectively ask yourself and judge for yourself if your destiny could have been altered by you by being more proactive and responsive to events as they unfolded.

Could I have anticipated better? No matter what the event or consequence that seems to have unexpectedly altered your plans, chances are that barring extremely rare happenings like life threatening illness or life altering accidents, every other event could have been anticipated by you. Perhaps out of fear of the eventuality or due to callousness and indifference or because of our foolhardy bravado we chose to ignore the writing on the wall and when it became inescapable we have conveniently blamed our destiny for it. E.g. Failing in an exam because you didn’t study cannot be equated to missing an exam because of serious illness. The former cannot be even remotely connected with destiny whereas the latter can largely blamed on it.

Could I have planned, prepared and preempted the subsequent events that mauled me? By and large the consequence of actions can be visualized by us. Obviously this means that one can work on planning, preparing and preempting the negative consequences with a positive, proactive and purposeful approach. E.g. The dates of paying the mandatory dues be it property tax, income tax or insurance premium are known to us. We also know the consequences of not paying up on time. Destiny has not role to play if your IT return comes up in scrutiny or you meet with an accident and your dues are not paid making you liable to face the consequences.

Could I have coped with the events that took place in a better way? If events have overtaken us unexpectedly, the remedy is not to sit and rue it but to take stock of the situation and then work on minimizing the damage. Throwing in the towel, passing the buck and disowning responsibility are classic traits demonstrated by weaklings when the chips are down. Do we tend to do this? The remedy is in picking up the threads and working on salvaging the situation and possibly working on long term solutions to avoid facing such a situation. E.g. You have parked your car and gone shopping and when you return you discover that your laptop and briefcase have been stolen by someone. While raising and alarm, lodging police complaint and attempting to trace the culprits would be the short term logical steps, the real control over your destiny begins when you decide never to leave your belongings in the car in full visual range of potential thieves.

Can I still change, challenge and emerge a champion? The ultimate learning from the experiences that have been painful, frustrating and unexpected is in working on changing your destiny by challenging yourself to cope with the reality and relentlessly pursuing a loftier goal happily, eagerly and confidently. E.g. don’t follow traffic signals only because you are afraid of getting fined but obey them because you believe you are a conscientious citizen of this country.

You conquer destiny not when you win the lottery (which is a matter of chance)but when you buy the lottery ticket  ( which is a matter of choice) for without that prize winning ticket in hand no one can win that lottery.

  1. Pick up 5 words from the above post that you had never heard of before and find the meanings, synonyms and anonyms of it. If possible make it a regular habit and your well set to improve your vocabulary, improve your language skills and definitely become a better communicator.
  2. Out of the following options choose a couple of those that you believe apply to you and which are destiny’s unfortunate bane on you. Outline 3 points for each option you choose whereby you will ensure that these banes are turned to boons in your life. E.g. If you have a physical handicap (bane) plan to focus on leveraging your mental faculties (education)/skill sets (e.g. Talents like painting/ music) / leadership skills etc.

Walk the talk…

How often do we find ourselves wringing our hands in frustration and loudly proclaiming that something must be done. It could be some trivial issue at work or home or it could be something that evokes nationalistic pride but far too often we end up wistfully thinking that if someone else did something the problem could be solved and we would all live happily ever after. Invariably we make the painfully realization that almost everyone seems to be thinking on the same lines and as a result nothing gets done except maybe for the reality that we get more and more frustrated. The irony of the whole situation is that each one of us has noble intent, a fair degree of ability to tackle the problem and a whole range of fanciful ideas on how to tackle the issue on hand, yet we are overwhelmed by inertia, skepticism and a lackadaisical attitude.

Here are three essentials to ensure we Walk the Talk.

A sense of ownership is essential if we as individuals are ever intending to tackle issues and solve a problem. Most times while we are keen to benefit from the solution of a problem, we pretend that the problem does not impact us majority and so someone else has to bell the cat. Social problems invariably remain a matter of concern for a long time because all the concerned people are side stepping the issue and hoping that in time a good Samaritan would do the needful. The squalor and garbage around our colonies for example are regular topics for running down the administration but do we as responsible citizens make a concrete effort to take some proactive steps. It could be simple things like writing to the newspapers, sharing the telephone numbers of the concerned departments with neighboring society members and requesting them to call up and put pressure or perhaps visiting the concerned officials and lodging a complaint.  All these are possible provided we believe that the matter on hand is MY problem too.

Self belief  that every individual including ME can make a difference. The most frivolous argument given for inaction is that ‘poor me is an insignificant person’ and so my role is very limited in influencing matters. Assume for a moment that the power supply to your house has failed and worse still all the neighbors seem to have regular power. Would you sit back and hope the power comes back on its own or would you take some proactive steps? Now assume that the power in your locality keeps going of intermittently and the entire neighborhood is inconvenienced.   Would you take some initiative to find out the problem and initiate some corrective action? In the latter case a distancing of a sense of ownership steers you to believe that you cannot do much and that there are others who are better equipped to tackle the situation.

Achievement orientation is one of the earliest drivers of human progress. Irrespective of how good or bad a student you were, there was a sense of achievement in scoring more than your expectations, even more joy in scoring more than a close competitor and maximum joy if miraculously you passed despite your wayward approach to academics or your topped due to your sincere and dedicated efforts. The reality is that a sense of achievement is a great motivator. If we can orient our thinking into making all challenges and problems faced b y us as an opportunity to achieve success, our mindset to tacking the issues on hand would be very progressive and result oriented. When we can visualize ourselves as orchestrating change, achieving our goals and making a big positive difference around us we would be taking on the responsibility of Walking the Talk.

  1. Identify a social cause that is close to your heart. Now work out an action plan to be involved in it and spending at least 2 hours a week on it on the field ( that is actively being engaged in it)
  2. As a responsible citizen how will you proactively get involved in the following situations?
  • A cat is trapped in the 10th floor of an apartment sill and is mewing piteously for help
  • The street lights have not been switched off even at 8 am in the morning when it is bright and sunny
  • An acquaintance calls you up to help him/ her urgently source blood for an operation. The bigger problem is that fresh blood is needed and the blood group type is rather rare.
  • You notice that the lift in your apartment block has been making some rather odd and unusual noise when it is in motion. You have already complained to the society office but no concrete action seems to have been taken because the noise continues. The second time you complaint you are treated with indifference and told that you are making a mountain of a mole hill. What will you do next?

The little things add up

Everyone is trying to accomplish something big, not realizing that life is made up of little things. – Frank A. Clark

As you read this post, notice that it is actually alphabets put together to form words which are placed logically to form sentences. The sentences in turn are arranged sequentially to ensure that a whole thought is expressed and the paragraph contains about one or two ideas. The paragraphs taken to gather will form the sum total of the major subject being elucidated. The key learning is that to translate ideas into tangible offerings, one has to traverse the humble and often painfully slow paths without excluding even the most lowly process. The big accomplishments are actually the fruits of the labor that one puts in with faith, hope and competence.

A close study of the lives of the well know personalities in history be it politicians, philosophers, artistes, musicians, sportsmen etc. would bring out some interesting facts. Without exception each one of them has had to begin in humility, pursue in earnest, work unceasingly and constantly cope with the pain of failure and yet retain their determination, drive and discipline even when standing on the slippery mount of success. A sportsperson provides the perfect example of how the little things in life actually add up to reflect the major accomplishments in their lives. Kenya and Ethiopia throw up the maximum  number of world class middle distance and long distance runners. Also most all of them come from impoverished backgrounds and credit their success to the long distance they travelled as children particularly while going to school. The high altitude and harsh climatic and topographical conditions just helped them become more resilient and sturdy.

It is also important to appreciate that big accomplishments are also relative. For a person coming from an uneducated background, going through school and college would qualify as a major achievement. For an athlete representing his school, college, state and country would be the natural progression of achievement. For a management trainee achievement could begin with getting confirmation as an employee and then climbing the corporate ladder possibly to become the top honcho. On the other hand the parents of new born’s will look out for the baby’s smile and the first tender steps he/she takes and the first words the child says as major accomplishments of the child. While a child’s achievements while growing up would be the result of biological evolution, each of those achievements signals a healthy development and the accomplishment of small but critical stages of growth. The similar feeling of small accomplishments translating into big achievements is experienced by the uneducated when they learnt to read and write and the sportsman when he gets his first and subsequent selections.

Duty Calls

Many of our fears stem from our tardy and lethargic behavior which results in us postponing our work, avoiding work and taking our duties casually. As a result suddenly the piled up work, the extensive rework that we have to do and the unavoidable deadlines that loom in front of us frighten us and the resultant stress and tensions scare us even more. When one objectively looks at the situation we make the startling realization that most of our fears are self created and possibly completely avoidable if only we were more diligent and hardworking.

Very often our problem of doing our duty efficiently emits from the uncomfortable and painful realty, that we don’t even know what our exact duties are. This is partly due to us being haphazard by nature but largely due to being ill organized and unplanned when getting to work. The way out is to take time out and attempt to clarify to ourselves what are the key jobs that we must do and ideally we must have fixed time frames to finish of the tasks. It also helps tremendously if we can prioritize our duties so that we cover all of them efficiently.

The next most common problem relates to our work style and our habit of putting off unpleasant tasks. We will stall, delay, attempt to avoid, try and delegate, deny, refuse or ignore those tasks that in our view are unpleasant and unappreciated. Conveying bad news for example is the least favored duty anyone fancies. Remember the time when we got a bad progress report card in school and we worried sick the whole night about the consequences. We muster courage to show it to our parent just a minute before leaving for school in the fond hope that tempers will cool down by evening. We actually end up getting a triple whammy for we are berated for trying to hide the report card, then for the poor performance and we have already spend a whole night in tossing and turning and visualizing  the most frightening consequences.

Perhaps our own work ethics creates the maximum problem for us. Sheer laziness and tardiness accounts for the bulk of the problem related to our abjecting our duties. . This followed closely by our personal weakness of being meticulous to a fault in doing ordinary tasks or completely casual and irresponsible when having to do important and critical tasks. On one hand one may spend hours on sprucing up our homes to receive an important visitor but at the same time we may conveniently put of deadline bound tasks like paying bills or filing the tax returns since there may be provisions to pay a fine to make up. In effect our style of work puts mental pressure on us for we are most worried about how the guests will react to the house despite our best efforts and at the  same time dread paying the whopping fines for not paying dues on time; the bottom line is that we still do not change.

 Remember: Excellence begins when you go beyond the call of duty.

  1. What do you consider as your 3 primary duties to the following people?
  • Your parents
  • Your spouse
  • Your children
  • Your friends
  • Your society at large
  1.  List out the following
  • Apart from the daily chores what are the 3 duties that you have to do at least once weekly for the family
  • What are those 3 duties which you know will make you worried if you do not perform them on time?
  • List out 3 tasks that you hate to do and examine how you handle to tasks when they occur.

Using our potential

The one thing that many of us have great difficulty in is really understanding our own potential. In the first place we cannot really identify our interests in life. Then we find it hard to really identify our strengths and even more painful to acknowledge our weakness. As a result more often than not we suffer from an inferiority complex or flaunt a superiority complex. As a result the real potential gets camouflaged in a mire of underutilization and misdirection. The overwhelming majority of us are guilty of under achieving and as a result we do not see ourselves as diamond that can sparkle but as lumps of coal.

If we want to really understand our true self better, we have to make an effort to be aware of our real self. The first step in this process is to be a good listener. This is not as easy as it sounds because more often than not we are busy refuting things that we hear but do not like. We need to pay close attention to our critics for they can give strong clues about areas of improvement. We must also be grateful to those who appreciate us for they are signaling potential in us that we may not fully comprehend or acknowledge. It is equally important to listen to our own inner voice that will prompt us about our strong feelings that will ultimately prove right. We may get a feeling that while we are strong in something, we may really not be having a long term interests in it and that we may get bored soon. This perhaps explains the numerous people who purse professions completely different from their basic and professional academic qualifications.

The second step demands honest appraisal of our abilities. We may have the ability to be multifaceted and would ideally prefer to juggle all our interests. However at some stage we may find that we have to eliminate some of our interests since we cannot devote the time and recourses to all our interests. This is tough because our heart craves for what we have strong likings for but the head rationalizes more objectively and we may have to take unpalatable decisions. By deferring and delaying our decisions on emotional grounds we may damage our own potential.  The third step is to work on honing our skills to perfect them. Once we have eliminated what does not fit into our priority we will have to take proactive steps to hone our skill sets in the area that we have chosen for ourselves. This can involve many sacrifices and there will be many times when we are assailed by self doubts.

Overcoming self doubt and building up confidence will finally light up our path to success and triumph. We would have to endure pain, overcome obstacles, encounter failure and be resilient to critics if we have to eliminate our self doubts. Thereafter with hard work and through experience we slowly buildup our confidence and before we realize it, we who were tools in another’s hand suddenly have the tools in our own hands and we can carve our own niche in this world.

Try this:

  1. Choose between learning 3 new card tricks or 3 new coin tricks. Go out and learn it. Find books or experts who can teach it. Believe that you have it in you to learn it.
  2. List out 3 tasks that you have never attempted before.  E.g. gardening, cooking, teaching, referring, organizing, supervising, new styles of dancing, karaoke singing etc. Choose one of them and put a target date to mastering it.

Kinship

Kinship is relationship and while we would like to believe that we have no personal biases when it comes to interacting with people, and that all of humanity is one, ask your conscience if it is really so. We may not make out preferences apparent, but check if the name of a person / the person’s religion / region/ language/ education/ color/ physical looks, conjure a stereo type in our minds? What happens when the person either confirms or does not confirm to that image? Strangely enough, either which way, we reserve judgment about accepting the person as he / she is!

If the person confirms to our image, we are smug in the knowledge that our hypothesis was right but we might hesitate to accept that person for either of the following two reasons. One is that we don’t like the image of the person and / or we want more proof that the image portrayed is really the right personality. If the person does not confirm to our original hypothesis a similar dilemma confronts us, for we wonder if it is a put on act by the other person or we doubt our own ability to judge. The key learning is that we take time to accept people and form a kinship with them.

There is nothing wrong in taking time to form kinship, because it is a self protective mechanism to ensure that we don’t fall prey to charmers, smooth talkers, wily and cunning people. At the same time our propensity to be suspicious, wary and treating everyone as a scoundrel unless proved otherwise is a major barrier to healthy communication, forging close bonds and embracing the other warts and all. At stake is the way we treat people; is it dignified, unbiased, proactive and warm. Do we respect their individuality; make allowances for the varied differences of culture, creed, caste, religion, education, economic disparity etc. Can we accept the differences, appreciate their uniqueness, and reconcile to the fact that despite all that we are part of one big family called the human race? If you can say a resounding YES, then we are accepting others whole heartedly and forming a kinship with them and that is what Humanity is all about.

Try these:

  1. Make an effort to visit a prison or a mental asylum and spent a few hours with the inmates there. What are your feelings when you go there? Is there fear within you? Do you look at them with trepidation and anxiety? Do you feel sorry for them? What can you do to make them feel less like outcasts and more wanted?
  2. If you have a servant or help coming home have you tried to find out more about them and their families? Can you do a bit to ensure that their children get some education and dignity in society? Can you suggest them ways and means to improve their economic status? Can you help them get better jobs?
