Reminders to succeed

Waking up each morning is easy; your biological clock does it for you albeit at a time when you really don’t want to wake up. The real challenge is to make the day worthwhile. Perhaps focusing on the following daily reminders would help enhance self belief, stimulate daring and prod  one to act decisively to achieve a set goal.

I am amazing – The greatest blessing an individual has is that s/he is blessed with a mind that can imagine the best. Unfortunately, there is a tendency to focus on the worst possibilities, perhaps as a way to minimize expectations and then feel happy with the mediocre successes that come our way. On the other hand once you start looking at the amazing gifts you are blessed with you gain in confidence, you seek out new ways of leveraging your potential, you do not get perturbed by negative feedback and you go that extra mile to achieve your dream. Once you see yourself as an amazing person, you will never let yourself fail to attempt the challenging but enticing possibilities that exist all around you.

I can do anything – Doubt kills more dreams than actual failure. This is a telling statement because very often we do not attempt simply because we doubt our capabilities. Once you believe that you are capable of doing anything you set your mind to, you will begin the task. Keep in mind that you need to be passionate enough to be able to achieve the near impossible because you can do anything only when you are truly obsessed by what you want. Can do anything does not mean you attempt what you are not prepared to put in more than a 100%. It also does not mean that you can get away by having rash, ostentatious and outlandish goals that have no correlation to your abilities, your will power and your determination. Of course you can attempt the impossible; just ensure it is not the miraculous you are aiming for.

Positivity is a choice – Each day will be unique. There will be good days and bad days, great moments and disappointments. However, each of us has a choice to treat the moment with respect. The great moments must be cherished, the disappointments viewed as opportunities to learn from and grow. Out attitude towards every event that punctuates our moments is what determines the choice of a positive response that we have consciously and proactively taken. Positive thinking and response is a choice we have and it is best we train ourselves to take that choice no matter how disappointing, despondent or miserable we feel. Turning those troubles into lessons is the best way to make positive choices.

I celebrate my individuality – Since we live in the times of competition, comparison and connection, there would be a tendency to imitate, copy and fit in with those around. While choosing to take the best from others is a wonderful way to grow, we must never forget that our individuality is what makes us unique. To maintain your unique identity and to leave your mark on this world focus on your strengths and leverage it while at the same time you try to minimize your weakness. At times showcasing your individuality may look out of place, it could evoke criticism, it could make you stand out like a sore thumb but at the end of the day, that is what makes you outstanding.

I am prepared to succeed –Success is never an accident. It is the outcome of focused, persistent, determined effort. Once can prepare to succeed by having the self belief in what one is doing, getting ahead through a planned, organized and phased action plan and having the right attitude to stick to your beliefs no matter what the obstacles. All these obviously means that you must be prepared to pay a price in terms of sacrificing time, money and sweat to toil in faith and hope.

List out three of your most off beat ideas/ thoughts / passions. Ask yourself why you have not yet made that a mission in life?

What is the one unique trait that you are often appreciated / praised/ noticed / noted for? How have you leveraged it to succeed in life?

What are your three often used excuses? Can you replace those words with a positive phrase that can rejuvenate you to focus on your goals.

Choose joy

Choose joy

Happiness is a choice that you make every moment of your life. You are reading this possibly because you are happy to read it. Possibly you are reading this post to divert yourself from some pressing worries. Perhaps you are reading this because you hope to be inspired or your get to learn some new words or simply because it appeared in your inbox and you are curious to know what it is all about. Whatever be your reason to read, it better be a conscious choice but more importantly it must be a choice that makes you feel happy. Choosing joy is not an option but a compulsion because the world around has enough and more challenges, worries and problems that will engulf you and joy is that antidote to cope with it.

Finding joy is not as complicated as one may think, considering the numerous challenges one faces daily. It is all about adopting /embracing the right mix of self belief, attitude, optimism and being pragmatic.

Self belief It is the belief that you are blessed with choices and that you will choose the right path as long as you can visualize joy at the end of it. E.g. A student has studied well but unfortunately gets a very tough question paper. Despite the possibility of not faring well or even failing, he/ she refuses to copy because in her/ his eyes that would be cheating. It is the self belief that no matter what the outcome, I will remain true to my character and values.

Attitude – It is how one approaches each moment and the changing landscape that makes life so unpredictable. E.g. The student referred to in the previous point can become despondent that all her/ his efforts are in vain or can choose to look at the challenges as a learning to put even more effort or to be more selective in what is being studied. The attitude decides how one embraces joy no matter what the situation.

Optimism – It is seeing the bright side of things. Even in the darkest hours look for a glimmer, a ray of sunshine or at least a twinkling star. E.g. The student who gets a tough paper must make an effort to attempt the paper and be optimistic that her/ his effort will give a favorable outcome. The assumption of course is that the student has studied well and so can put in a decent effort.

Pragmatic – Choosing joy is always the result of pragmatic thinking. If the situation is hopeless it is better to embrace it stoically rather than in grief and despondency. E.g. The student can keep wondering and hurting that all his/ her efforts are in vain or could lament his/ her fate. On the other hand of one is practical look at the tough exam paper as an eye opener on how one must be better prepared. Focus in doing one’s best using all the knowledge gained through the hard work put in. If the paper has been uniformly tough for everyone, chances of those giving it a great shot passing are much higher. Giving up and not answering is a pragmatic but wasted effort as the outcome is now never in doubt.

Try these:          

  1. Can you recollect two of your most terrifying moments in your life? What were your reactions? How did you overcome the situation?
  2. You arrive at the airport for a much awaited foreign holiday. The airport suddenly announces that all flights are cancelled due to major technical glitch at the airport. It is peak holiday season and you can never get a booking again.  What will be your response to the situation? How will you choose joy after the initial shock and despondency?
  3. How would you react to the following situations?
  • The police has issued a fine for over speeding. The car was being use by your friend when the incident occurred which was captured on CCTV.
  • You dropped your phone accidentally and by mistake a passerby stomped on it with her spike heels. The screen is shattered.
  • You go for a health check up and the doctor says you need a specialized check up for what the doctor suspects is rather serious ailment.

It’s your life…

It’s your life…

For many of us, the challenge is to truly understand the purpose of our life. During our academic life, our focus was on academic excellence in the hope of making those around proud of our achievements and also hoping that academic excellence will set a path for success. However, except for the toppers who were branded exceptional, followed by the excellent and good, the vast majority of us were merely above average, average and occasionally academic failures. Yet both the topper and the failure still grappled with the question of what next and what is the purpose of my life. What next was relatively easier to answer because each of us either gave in to our dreams or settled for what the rest did. A minuscule number opted for something different and off beat, largely due to compulsions. Yet for each one, the question of what is the purpose of my life remained an enigmatic question with an elusive answer. Throughout this process, we got good, bad, indifferent, useless, unsolicited advice from elders, teachers, family and those concerned with out welfare. Many of us succumbed to these apparent pearls of wisdom, only to realize much later that the path neither suited us nor were we able to cope with it happily and changing tracks was challenging.

The purpose of life is to make the best of your talents and abilities, to make a positive difference to your life and to those around. When viewed from this lens, no matter what we do, if it gives us happiness and it does not violate human dignity and ethics that is the purpose of our life. Striving to change it for the better, aspiring to achieve something greater and taking chances to make a greater impact with your life, are all par for the course. In fact aiming to better ourselves should be the hall mark of one’s life. If what you do is meaningful to you, even just lazing around, you need not be apologetic. While the world is chasing an elusive financial dream a person who can sleep with a clear conscious is the one who is living his/ her life most meaningfully. Well meaning people may offer unsolicited advice, give subtle hints or occasionally berate a person because they view things from their own perspective. However, each individual must choose a path that best answers his/ her question ‘what is the purpose of my life?’

Try these:          

  1. List the names of three individuals who in your view, best amplified and lived their  life the way they wanted it. Can you identify three possible challenges that they faced in living their life on their terms?
  2. What are the three things in your life that you are keen on doing (but have not yet attempted). What is holding you back from doing that?
  3. What are the few suggestions made to you by well meaning people who have no idea of your own personal plans. ( e.g. I know a young CA who now wants to peruse studies in Economics and Statistics because her mind is set on working in the space of public policy making. Yet everyone around is keen to help her get a job as a Chartered Accountant and thinks she is barking up the wrong tree).

What is meant to be will always find its way

As we approach the last month of the year, there is a tendency to look back at the year gone by and reminiscence about the good, the bad and the ugly that happened to us. There would be moments of pain that we recall, there would be ecstatic moments which send our spirits soaring high and there would be some frustrations that are irritating to recall. However, what we find toughest to cope with are the moments of regrets that overwhelm us; we desperately wish then that we could turn the clock back and redo things differently. This lingering feeling of haplessness; of missing out on opportunities to change our destiny keep haunting us for a much longer time. In this time of reminiscence, one must also keep in mind the reality that ‘what is meant to be will always find its way’ just as in the picture above, the quaint flowers bloom along a forlorn, deserted, almost arid sidelines of the railway track.

Once we awaken to this profound truth that ‘what is meant to be will always find its way’ we would be less delusional, more practical and certainly more optimistic that the best is yet to come. This in no way means that you can sit back and wait for good fortune to parachute into your life. Instead, it is an exhortation that we must continue to give of our best and the fruits of our labor will be sweet and plentiful, when the time comes. The year gone by would have had its shares of ups and downs but our focus must be on the highs in our life, the hopes that we have for the times ahead and we must inbuilt in us, the ability to visualize the fruits of success. Dreams give you a reason to aspire, a focus to aim at and a pinnacle to scale. Life will no longer be arid, parched and infertile. We will plant the seeds of hope, water it with faith, nurture it with diligence and reap the fruits in abundance.

Patience is the one virtue that each one must cultivate. No seed sprouts overnight to grow into a plant. Similarly, all our actions, our sacrifices our energies will bear fruit only when the time is ripe. Of course, it is assumed that we align our actions with reality and not dig wells where there is no semblance of water. It is also good to keep in mind that often we are bestowed with what we can really cope with, manage efficiently and accept with good cheer. Plant seeds of hope, faith and good cheer in your heart and let your mind and body help you plough your life ahead. When the time comes, gather the flowers, fruits and produce and share it. You will receive what you deserve sooner than later. It may not be in a form or shape that you expect but it is yours for the picking if you look for it.

Try these:           

  • List names of 5 people who you know personally. One must be a family member, the other a colleague, an acquaintance, a neighbor and a person who assists you in some way (house help / liftman / security guard/ gardener etc.)
  • Can you recollect the best moment you had last week. What do you think will be the most wonderful thing that can happen to you before the month end?
  • If someone gifted you Rs.1,000 what will you do with it before the month end?
  • How will you view things if your wallet got stolen and it had Rs.5,000?

Be yourself

Be yourself

In the previous blog post, we looked at creating our own unique brand. This post is an extension of that thought.

One challenge each individual faces, is his/ her yearning to be better than someone else who they envy. Part of this phenomenon can be attributed to the parental expectations reinforced in school days with comparisons between marks of classmates. The trend gets accentuated when one is aspiring for suitable jobs or career opportunities. It gets worse when as an employee or a business person the greatest motivation comes from being one upon on competition. While benchmarking against competition with the intent of improvement is an excellent strategy, using the competition as an induced measure of proving one’s worth would be a short sighted and bitterly disappointing venture in the long run. The solution to overcome this is simple. Just be yourself.

To be yourself, spend a little time on self analysis. This could include a personal SWOT analysis, introspection about one’s passion and desires and being realistic about opportunities to leverage while maintaining ones motivation. This could largely lead to a more focused approach to what one hopes to achieve, will give one free reign over his/ her own uniqueness being harnessed and ensure that you are valued for who you are and not merely for what one is achieving. An underworld don for example revels in his/ her power but is constantly threatened and worried about the law catching up, being eliminated by his/ her enemies and has to live with extreme stress the rest of his/ her life. An individual who on the other hand is realistic about himself/ herself and works with passion on what is most alluring will always revel in the growth and success, remain unfettered by stress and will never be bothered about competition in any form. Just be yourself.

The biggest benefit for those who live life on their own terms is that, they are valued for who they are, their integrity and diligence, the industrious nature and hard work, the success they have carved out and above all for their humane nature and respectful conduct. The net effect of being yourself and not being artificial in your thoughts, deeds and contributions is that you would have bloomed into the flower you were meant to be. You will leave a unique legacy cherished by those who know and love you. Just be yourself.

Try these: –

  • If a tombstone where to be erected for you, what would you like the epitaph carved out on it to read?
  • Can you list out the positive adjectives or comments about you shared by your mother or father, a sibling, a cousin, a friend, a colleague, a teacher? This can give you clues to your strengths and characteristics that define you.
  • For each of the above persons can you identify what is the one most endearing quality you value in them? This can give you clues about the positive influences on you by the people who matter to you.

The scars tell a story

The scars tell a story

As one goes through life, an individual encounters various experiences; some pleasant, a few unpleasant and some experiences are so traumatic that they remain lifelong, like a scar left behind by a deep wound. Yet the fact that you have faced your challenges with courage and continue to progress in life, is a huge victory, and the scar left behind emotionally or physically,  becomes a symbol, a reminder and a story of the battles you have participated in.

Unfortunately life is unforgiving and so new battles emerge and the challenge is to cope with it. If you get scars let it not scar your life but let it just be scar on the flesh and not the spirit. This is tougher than it seems because it is the mind that needs to be tamed, the spirit that needs to be ignited and the future that one should beckon with open arms, if the wounds from the battle have to be healed and the scars become a distinguishing mark of your spirit.

Your scars will tell a proud story when you:

Believe in yourself – Until you believe that you have the moral courage and personal commitment to fight for your rights, you will rarely engage. Once you believe in yourself, then your focus will be on ensuring you are not denied what is your legitimate due. That is the time you take on the mighty with all your might and in the process you will get hurt, some injuries can be painful, occasionally you will be dispirited but when the dust settles after the fight, even if you have not won, you would have at least scored a moral victory and the resultant scars would become a badge of honor and inspiration.

Fight for your right – The intensity of your fight will directly proportionate to the intensity of your belief in the cause. Once you decide that you have a legitimate cause, no cross would be too heavy for you to bear. Discrimination, injustice, not getting your dues are causes that often trigger an individual to take cudgels for one’s self respect, rights and dignity. In the process, there would be some blood spilt, damage done and suffering to be endured. However, your conscience would be at ease once you have chosen to stand up for your rights. The resultant scars would again become proud badge of honor for you.

Stand up against injustice – You may perhaps not be affected but when you see those around you being denied justice, your conscience will often trigger action. Cowards may rationalize that it is not my fight but then if you don’t fight for your fellow men when they need support, then where and when will you get people to stand up for you when you are wronged? Injustice to anyone in any form must never be tolerated in civil society. However, standing by a cause that you believe in could mean taking on a fight against those more powerful, more self centered and more brutal. There could be serious consequences but the scars you get thereafter will be one’s you cherish.

Try these:           

  • List out the three major injustices that you believe are rampant around you. How can you work on mitigating these injustices?
  • Of all the rights you enjoy which is the one right you value the most. Do you think some sections of society are denied this right? Would you be able to lend your support to those denied this right?
  • What are the three rights as a citizen that you feel you are being denied? Can you write a strong letter to the concerned civic chief to get the matters addressed?

You will…

You will…

It is good to have great dreams, ambitions and aspirations. It means that you are thinking of the future, that you are focusing on certain achievements and that you seek to achieve something significant in your life. However, the more critical step is to overcome the doubts about your ability to realize your goals. In the beginning the dream looks enticing but as you begin to think more seriously and deeply about it, self doubts, fear of overcoming the obstacles and your own indecisiveness to commit to the goal become self limiting behavior.

You can do whatever you set your mind on but it requires effort. It is not just hard work but smart work that helps you reach your goals faster. Smart work is planning well for any task, identifying the best way to quickly and effectively manage a task and then putting it into practice. Hard work compliments smart work in that one has to diligently and consistently put in the personal efforts required. In some cases it could be merely doing a small part of the job yourself but would involve having systems and control over other tasks delegated or outsourced. The latter part is the outcome of smart work where you seek the help of experts or delegate routine jobs and you focus fully on the activities that you have to do yourself.

You should not let your concerns overshadow your dreams. The tendency to analyze indefinitely, the habit of vacillating between options and the wait for the right moment often derail well thought out plans. It is not to say that one must not be careful nor should one be impulsive. However one should be able to, within a reasonable time frame decide on the course of action to be taken so as to begin the journey towards achieving ones dreams/ goals/ passion.

You will when you start. Well begun is half done, provided, one begins. Waiting for all the pieces to fall in place before beginning would be an exercise in futility. The beauty of life is its unpredictability that is sometimes exhilarating and occasionally frustrating. Begin when you have the big picture and a reasonable amount of details in place. Be flexible in your progress so as to make adjustments to  chart your course right along the way. The key is to begin.

When you can set your mind to achieve something, then you should let your passion outweigh your concerns and you will succeed once you start.

Try these:           

  • Over the next one week get in touch with people who you know well but haven’t been in touch for over six months. Experience their surprise, more so when they realize your communication to them was just a friendly gesture.
  • Plan out a unique birthday gift for each of your family members. Execute it on the respective dates.
  • Tomorrow do something that you have never done before.

You are a born chooser

You are a born chooser

At this point that you are reading, you have chosen to read. The moment you stop reading, you have chosen not to read. The great thing about life is that life allows you to choose no matter who you are, whatever your background and however insignificant you may think you are. It is our choices that determines our progress not fate or luck or destiny. We choose our happiness, we choose our friends, we choose how to relate to others, we choose our attitude. Being a winner or a loser; a success or a failure; a leader or a follower; are all the outcome of our choices.

The question that we ask then is ‘How do we ensure we make the right choices?

Be independent – don’t be forced or coerced into selecting what others want. Having an independent mind, self belief and confidence are prime requisites to make decent choices. Never let others decide for you no matter who they are; they could be parents, siblings, elders, bosses, friends, well wishers for none of them can take responsibility for your choices. They can share their views, raise their concerns, introduce you to a different way of thinking and it would be wise to consider their suggestions but the final choice must be made by you without them forcing or pressurizing you in any way.

Analyze before you choose – weigh the pros and cons. Ideally your choices must never be based on snap decision except when it is an emergency. In all other cases, study, analyze, think, mull over, compare, contrast, weigh the options before you finally make the choice. Be careful not to fall into the trap of paralysis by analysis; which is nothing but indecisiveness.

Be decisive – don’t oscillate once you have chosen – A common problem faced by many is that after making a choice they have second thoughts. They then oscillate between the choice made and the alternatives thereby disturbing their peace of mind as also confusing those around. A few choices will go wrong for a variety of reasons but the fear of going wrong should not limit you from not choosing. Remember that not choosing and sitting on the fence can also have consequences and more importantly it is also a choice you have made albeit passively.

Review your choice – change it if you come up with strong reasons to change – There are times when new information or unexpected changes require you to review your choices. Do not be adamant and hold tight to your wrong choice. Reviewing and changing your choice for valid reasons is an important choice to be made. When required do not shy away from changing your choice.

Be prepared to pay a price for your choice – your choice always comes at a cost – For every choice you make you have to pay a price. Just as there are no free lunches in this world there are no choices that have no repercussions. Keep in mind that the price you pay is worth it for the benefits of your choice far outweigh the price you pay, which is the reason you made the choice.

Never regret – nor apologize – stand by your conviction – If you take responsibility for your choices, you will never regret nor apologize nor have self doubts. A choice that goes wrong simply means that you were inadequate in determining the right choice. It could also indicate poor preparation, lack of understanding, an obstinate refusal to pay the price for the choice or it could be simply that the goal posts changed unexpectedly. Believe in yourself and your choices.

Try these:           

  1. List out the last three choices that went wrong for you. Analyze the reasons for the choices going wrong.
  2. What would influence your choices in the following cases:
  • Taking up or refusing an opportunity to be posted abroad
  • Betting on the winner in a sports tournament
  • Participating in a dare
  • Moving out of your comfort zone
  • Standing guarantee or refusing to offer a guarantee for a loan taken by a friend

Don’t Quit but ideally go ahead and DO IT

In a fast paced materialistic world, quick success is what the expectation norm is. Unfortunately this also comes with a downside that people give up too fast when they do not attain what they seek in the short time frames they set for themselves. Society in general, the family unit and the community in particular are equally to blame for pushing people to achieve unrealistic expectations. Higher exam scores, high paying jobs, amassing wealth etc. have become the yardstick to judge success. Gone into the background are qualities like hard work, honest ways, morals and etiquette’s. Perhaps this explains the rising suicides, the increase in psychological/ neurotic illness, spate of violence and rampant intolerance reflected in incidence of road rage, robberies, cyber crimes and off late trolling. The average conscientious citizen then is under tremendous pressure to perform or quit. It takes tremendous courage, will power and self respect to follow ones dreams, passion, goals and to express ones thoughts freely, in the face of constant scrutiny, criticism and unrealistic expectations from others.

I am sharing an Acronym that should be a good guide to help you overcome the feeling of quitting and instead of simply saying a passive Don’t Quit and keep it for another time, become proactive and go on and DO IT  :

Develop – The focus is on finding ways and means to work and bring into fructification various dreams, aspirations, goals that you have set for yourself. Do not let criticism, negativity or failures hamper you from pursuing your ultimate aim. Developing your mind, spirit and work is essential for you to make progress however slow in the right direction. The task may seem ominous, it may begin to sprout doubts in your mind but as long as you plant the seeds of self belief, exude passion and are prepared to roll up your sleeves and work you will develop in body, mind and soul.

Opinions – Form your own opinions and also seek the opinion of those who matter. Consult elders, experts, mentors and those in your circle of positive influence. Each of them will be able to contribute even if it is by way of constructive criticism or pragmatic wisdom or by simple encouragement. Remember they have your welfare in mind. However, also remember that they may not be able to see your vision or feel your passion and so they could be conservative in their thinking and opinions. Ultimately you have to assimilate and then decide the course of action or the corrective course of action to be taken. Focus on Doing it.

Ideas  – You mind might be spinning with ideas. You see opportunity in various forms. At the same time you could also be seeing problems in every opportunity. Remember that the problems are there to make you grounded and realistic but not put to make you pessimistic and faint hearted. At times some ideas seem to be exceptional and you are just itching to get it going. All ideas need to be vetted thoroughly and mulled over and planned. Only then can you begin. Follow the process and Do It.

Thoughts – The crux of success lies in your ability to think positively. Your thoughts must be focused on achieving your plans and goals. Your thoughts must be on finding solutions, overcoming obstacles and managing constraints. This will enable you to come up with alternatives, bring about clarity on how to proceed further and will also reinforce your belief in your plans. Never let the mind falter when you face a crisis. Instead, use the power of you mind it to think differently, to be innovative and to be goal focused. Solutions will present itself . All you need to do then is DO IT.

 Try these:

What are the three things you have kept on hold and not attempted yet. How about drawing up an action plan to DO IT?  Then instead of just saying Don’t Quit but I shall keep it on the back burner now say DO IT and get cracking.

How about attempting something new that you never ever thought of doing?  Maybe learn some new skill or be a wee bit more adventurous with your choice of picnics/ parties / get together. Go on ensure that you DO IT differently the very next opportunity that comes.

We have great plans, grand ideas and visualize success often. All of these are essential to give us a road map to begin our quest to glory. Yet, what is critical is beginning the journey to conquest. Just when we are about to begin our quest, we begin to have doubts, anxieties, start to question our self belief and decide to postpone the beginning for another day. Instead of focusing on what could go right we have foolishly started worrying about what could go wrong. Optimism – One you have identified your passion or dream, the most important ingredient that can help you begin the journey is optimism. As they say keep facing the sun and you will never see the shadows. Keep in sight all the key milestones that you need to attain and slowly but surely you would progresses well. Having faith in your abilities, believing that you have planned well and being sure that you are going to enjoy the journey are triggers that will help you remain optimistic along the journey.

Passion – If monetary rewards or financial success is the only motivator that drives you, chances are that your journey will get derailed simply because you are being driven by an extrinsic motivator. There is no substitute for an intrinsic motivator. Passion comes about when one is able to indulge in what one loves and knows that the indulgences is not merely a passing phase but a lifeline to success which you can enjoy every single moment.

Resilience – Despite the best of planning there could be some critical moments in the journey where one begins to question one’s commitment to the goal. Unexpected hurdles, sudden crisis, failure when least expected and or having to face criticism and nay sayers frequently can puncture an individual’s self belief. It is to overcome these moments of doubt, anxiety and fear of failure that one needs to have tremendous resilience to fight the odds. Resilience is continuing to march on even when the going is almost perilous, defeat is lurking at every corner and it is blind belief in one’s abilities to overcome that keeps one afloat. As long as there is resilience, you will not let a small hole in the boat sink you.

Action – The proof of the pudding is in the eating; similarly all the planning, optimism, passion and resilience fructify only if you act. Start doing. Do not wait for an auspicious day, date or time. Ideally fix a date to start and then work backwards on the planning and steps to be taken. Do not postpone your date with destiny. It is possible that no sooner you start things may not go as planned. That is when your optimism will provide the wind below your wings. Your passion will add momentum to your efforts. Despite this if you still are floating like an aimless kite, your resilience will enable you to channelize your energies and focus on your goals and keep you moving towards that. One thing is for sure; action alone will give you the thrust and velocity to attain your dreams.

  1. Find a way to increase your savings. Earn more or spend less. So what can you do on either front?
  2. Plan a unique budget holiday in which you will spend not more than 65% of the average budget you would otherwise have spent for a similar holiday.
  3. Challenge yourself to do something you have never attempted before. E.g. sing at a karaoke night or learn a new form of dancing etc.
